Sorry for the dumb question, but is providing links to e-bay auctions forbidden or not? I couldn't figure it out...

At this point in time we have not decided against posting Ebay links.  The only question is where.  If you do post links be sure they are not off topic.

Good question.  We will update you when we come up with some hard auction linking rules.

Nope, none at all.  It simply isn't necessary.

As for Ebay links... why not just make an 'Insider's Forum' or something -- a place to post links to good deals, like Ebay Auctions, sales at Shop @ Home, good Bricklink sellers.. stuff like that? That way all the 'advertising' is confined to one place where people can choose to look or choose to avoid entirely. Of course, the actual buying and selling could still remain against the rules -- the two ideas are not mutually inclusive.

Just a thought.

Regarding our no trade policy, the reason for it is because we want to avoid incidents like this one and to try to keep MCN one big family here :)

As for Damien's suggestion for an 'Insider Forum', I think it would be very difficult to enforce as there would be no way of guarding a user from advertising his/her own auction here under a different name... that is unless we ban free email accounts here like fbtb, but I personally don't want to do that :)

So unless we find a perfect solution, I guess our no trade whatsoever policy stays :)

Having run a few forums I am against live auction links/spoilers. No telling who is/was planning on bidding on the item - no need to create animosity by spoiling a unique lot by announcing it to the entire community.

Sorry, RB, but I'm still against the trading ban. What you say is true, but on the FBTB thread you mentioned, I failed to see even one admin post! No doubt that an incident like that is annoying , but it doesn't seem to affect the whole FBTB community. This is just a conflict between two guys! And I say it's THEIR fault, not FBTB's.
Let's get back to MCN. Really, I like the way it is. I also want to keep it one big family. But, nevertheless, I strongly support Damien's offer, because it's sensible and simple. Why not include a new section to the Store / Services directory of our website? ;D

*Knock* *Knock* *Knock* Anybody there? Whooo-hooo? Doesn't Unknown Artist's post count for post anymore? Nobody is going to try to convince me how cool the trading ban is? ;)

Hey UA, there were several topics, all about the troubles with that trade, and some of them did have admin posts in it.  However, the most important thing is that Daz Hoo posted, as he's the unoffical mod of the BSTF forum there.  Trust me, it was a big freaking deal, and its happened several times, with several "bad" traders.  THat's why its not allowed.  We don't want that here.  It's hard enough policing the profanity, bad spellers, and triple posters.

No DD, it was not directed at you.... it was directed, in general, at all of the users of the forum.  No discrimination here, we all misspell once in a while, but between young users, and users for whom english is not their first language, having a lot of misspelt words in a sentence (or run-on sentence) can make communication nearly impossible.

This topic is for Rules Q&A.  Minifig Customizaiton Network is not designed for posting your everyday MOC's.  Unless a forum is specificly designated in the future all MOC's of this nature would go in Off Topic Chat.  Better yet, there are several sites designed for posting different types of MOC's.

Classic-Castle.com for castle creations
FBTB.net for posting Star Wars creations
