Megabloks Narnia Sets

by Redbean (Brick Talk)

Managed to dig up these pictures courtesy of Lugnet. Check them out and talk about them here:

Narnia Ice Castle

Aslan's Camp

Winter Battle

Since they don't look to be very big sets, I will probably be buying all of them :)

Pretty cool. I might pick them up for a piece here or there if I can find them cheap enough (it's too bad there isn't a Megabloks section for Bricklink).

Unfortunately, Megabloks appears to be making the same mistake LEGO made with the Star Wars theme. That is, using existing equipment pieces for the sets rather than new molds. Some of those weapons pictured are no more Narnia-like (insofar as one can tell from production and pre-pro photos taken by WETA) than "loudhailer" used as blasters for Star Wars sets.

Both companies could learn the value of new sculpts.

Yeah... I think Lego could have done better with this license.  MB really didn't do anything "new" with these sets, and, in fact, I think they're actually poorer than MB sets usually are.

At first glance, these looked lie they would be as good or better than the Dragons sets. At second third and fourth glance, though, they're not. They're cheezier. They could have dug out some of their old sword and shield molds (from ten years ago) and made those parts a lot better. Also, it doesn't even look like Aslan is poseable. What fun is that?

The minotaur is pretty cool, but my favorite part of these sets is the new tree piece. I'm not going to spend $10 just to get a tree, though.

*sigh* stubborn brand loyalty is just something that I can never comprehend...

Anyway, action-figure.com has posted tons of pictures from the latest US toyfair, including detailed shot of the latest MB products, the complete gallery can be found here.

Things to notice include the further expansion of the Dragons and Pyrates line, a somewhat disappointing continuation of its Marvel license, as well as an attempted cross between Bionicle and an Action-figure in its new Mag-warriors line. Maybe children nowadays will find this appealing?

I like mega blocks, while some of their sets look, well...terrible...

But the pieces in the narnia sets look cool while the people look, well...terrible...

The boinicle things look cool but i will probably hate them as much as bionicle...( bring back slizer! )

I think i might as well buy these sets tho, they look small and cheap.

Nah, I don't really like them that much, they look to cheap, like they made a set, and glued it all together.

by Recluce on Sat, 11/19/2005 - 05:55
Hehe, sometimes with megablocks, you do have to glue it together to get it to hold.

There seem to be a few nice weapons (particularly Prince Caspian's sword) in the sets, but aside from that I see little to redeem them in regards to paint job, set design, or useful parts.

LEGO and Mega Blok are cross-compatible toys. While they do not fit perfectly, Mega Bloks minifigs can use LEGO accessories, and vice versa.

Yes. We all know this. They're called "Clone Bricks" or some derivitive thereof. But, despite being of lesser quality and sometimes dubious usefulness/design, some of the clone brick companies do make decent/interesting items and sets. Don't hate them just because they're not LEGO.

Some one should make an online comic called "Mega Block Hunter"  It should be about a rogue killer who infiltrates the world of megablock and kills and destroys all megablocks.  Yep, all alone on a hostile planet with one mission, kill the leader and those who stand in your way.

And since this topic is getting ugly (Don't hate the brick, guys) I am locking it.
