Mars Mission alien with arms? Prototype?

Ok... On Thursday my mum ordered a load of food from the Teco website, and with the shopping came a new 'Tesco Direct' catalouge. Me being me looked straight for the Lego section, and I saw this:

The Mars Mission aliens don't have proper arms, just static ones, which dissapointed many people. So this looks great. I don't know where Tesco got the picture from exactly, because that must be a prototype alien. I wonder why Lego scrapped that idea... ?

So, what do you think of this?

Cost was probably an issue why they didn't use the protoype

I have 1 alien and I hate it. the "prototype" is much better. I wonder if you can get one on ebay????????

I think the reason why they didn't use the "prototype" design is that they wanted the arms to be as close to the body as possible so it could fit on those sleds. Would have been nice if they did use the prototype instead because then the aliens could hold weapons.
