lego lazyness

by spaz (Brick Talk)
hey does anybody but me think lego is getting lazy these days, example:the chum bucket spongebob set? 10 years ago lego would have made it a full circle. now its just half, but they don't tell you that in the pictures. post what you think.

I agree... They often do halves of places instead of the whole thing. Apparently so you can see the inside, but they could just use hinge bricks instead to open a full building.

As far as my memory serves me, I believe that Lego designers have a pretty strict piece limit when it comes to designing new sets. As much as they would like to design a model that has a more complete build to it, they really don't have the option, since sets that look 'bigger' tend to sell better than others.

I can see where building such a thing as a castle would be a challenge for them, and as much as a hate the gaps in sets and the use of pre-fab pieces like BURPs, I can understand why they do it.

They aren't lazy, just limited.

I believe it was Brother Damien who pointed out the fact the Lego pieces are made of plastic, aka a petroleum based product. The cost of petroleum has skyrocketed in the past several years, ipsofacto the cost of plastics can be incompatible with profit. I'm sure TLG would love to create the old style large complex sets, but all companies that work in that medium have to make sacrifices these days. Maybe if TLG could drill in ANWAR we could catch a break ; )

Not only that but, the more pieces that they put in a set along with extra minifigs, the prices go up and only the rich can buy which would be very inconvenient for us as lego fans. You must also understand that even though 1.6 million visitors go to lego land California and 1.5 million go to every other one, they don't earn much of a profit. Because after all at the hotels and theme parks they give free lego sets.

I also would understand why they do this.
