Will Brasso Remove EVERYTHING On A Minifig?

by RustyHunter (Tips, Techniques & Questions)
Will brasso remove ALL designs on a minifig?  Like my soccer minifigs, they have stripes.  Will brasso remove the stripes?

Yep, I'm pretty sure. But I have another question:

I used brasso on a torso, and the design went away, but there is still a shiny area that looks like the design. Anyone know how to get rid of this?

From what I've seen Brasso (and similar goop) will take all designs off the minifigs [where you rub it] even the stripes (in fact, I think the stripes might go first- but don't hold me to that) .

As for the shiny area(s)- I've heard people around here saying that the Brasso shinys it up- I've never used "Brasso" itself only some similar stuff- the parts that I've "Brassoed" became dull- I've never seen that as a problem since I'd either paint over the torso or decal it, but you can always brasso the entire torso front to get a uniformed brassoing. I'm not aware of any way to turn the brassoed torso shiny at this moment in time.

Hey I know you are curious about brasso but I'm getting kind of annoyed of all the forum threads asking about how to remove the paint. Please look at the other about 20 of them and get your answers from there. Please dont bring up brasso again, i will be listing some links to things related to brasso and brasso will remove everything if you try hard enough.

K, sorry.  But one more thing and I'll be done because I just bought some brasso and have been using it.  I read that kaminoian says it should take about a minute to clean the print, but for me it takes like 10-15 minutes for one figure!  Is that normal? Do I need to prep the minifig before it is brassoed?

That's all.  Should be the last thing on brasso for a while anugrah, but next time it'll probably be about applying decals!!!   =P

Well Rusty, I've seen various answers around- some say that it comes off 1...2...3...  and others (like me) say you have to work at it. I used a product similar to Brasso when I tried it for the first time (it was old and dried out- water helped it) some of the design came off right away, but for the whole design I had to do some serious working. I'm not aware of any prepping needed (other than opening the cap ;D )

Rusty sorry if i was being harsh, I didn't realized it was you that made the thread. 10-15 mins doesn't sound right, here what you should do is let the brasso sit on the figs body part (where the paint is :-)) so that the chemicals can dissolve the paint. After that take more brasso and rub it on the body part. It should take a while but not that long.

Another method is to just lay the Brasso-stained cloth down on a table and rub the torso onto it. It's so much more efficient with a flat surface than with your fingers.

Too true, I never thought of that.

sorry if this is a bit off topic,

But if you put it on the table, wont it remove the design on the table and totally wreck the table?

The method deathstickman mentioned works very well. I can usually wipe everything from a peice in about 30 seconds.

Yes. That is true pasteymcgee,

"sorry if this is a bit off topic,

It is not off topic, it has to do with the discussion. But anyways, if you have a table made of wood with paint on it, be very very careful.

If you have a glass table you will be better off.

But then again this topic has been discussed before. I suggest you type it in the search bar.
