This June MCN are going to the movies in style!

In this Contest we ask you to create a custom minifig from a movie or film of your choice. This could be anything from Predator to a Gremlin!

The Rules

1.) Contestants may submit up to two pictures of their entry (a front and side view, for example). Images must be no larger than 400 pixels tall, by 600 pixels wide. Larger images will be disqualified.

2.) For this contest, please refrain from submitting characters based on Star Wars, movie adaptions of comic books (X-Men, Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, etc), and recent fantasy-book movie adaptions (Lord of the Rings, Eragon, etc).

3.) Entries must be brand new, never-before-seen customs. Any entry that was published online prior to the start of the contest will be disqualified.

4.) Contestants may each enter only one (1) minifig for consideration. Please consider this choice carefully, as entries cannot be changed once they have been submitted for review.

5.) When submitting an entry, please include a short write-up giving the name of the character and what film(s) the character was featured in.

6.) Entries must be something the whole community can enjoy. For obvious reasons, avoid nudity, excessive gore, or other offensive content.

7.) Please use care in taking pictures of your custom. If an image is dark, blurry, or has excessive glare, it may get marked down as the actual custom will be difficult to see.

8.) Contest rules are subject to change if necessary.

PRIZE

Both the winner and the runner up will have their customs featured on the front page of the MCN and will be entered into the MCN Customs Database (at such a time when the database is fully up and running again, which may be after the next website update).
The winner of the contest (only one winner folks) will be given a $25 voucher to be used at any one MCN Approved Vendor (see below) of the winner's choice.

The winner will be contacted via Private Message with the details after the contest is finished, and must respond with their choice within 2 weeks. If the winner cannot or will not comply, the prize will be awarded to the runner up.

BrickArms
BrickForge
Kaminoan's Fine Clonier
Arealight's Custom Works
MMCB's Custom Cloth Accessories
or
A hooded cloak and classic trench coat in winner's choice of colour with free shipping - from the fine store of Unknown Artist.

The Contest will run from today (June 2nd  12.01 am GMT ) to June 29th (12.01 am GMT)

So get busy! We look forward to seeing what you can come up with!

So, where do we post  the finished customs? Here, or in the MOC's section?

I'm pumped, but you're going to have to explain to Mr. Callahan why he's not eligible.  Hope you feel lucky . . . .
Are we able to submit the fig in an appropriate vig or just solo shots?

Also, can it be from an older movie?

I know it. If we'd just had the contest some time ago. . . 'course, Harry as a character is still eligible, just not the exact one shown already.

Are we able to submit the fig in an appropriate vig or just solo shots?

Either. The solo shots are preferrable because a vig would require a smaller overall picture in order to meet the maximum pixel allowance. Likewise, a vig could be distracting, and the overall appearance of the pictures needs to be so that it easily fits with the MOCs gallery, as the two top places will be entered there. Very small vig for the figure to stand on is fine. Larger vigs would likely just be too much.

Also - vigs may be in line for future contests. So you may want to save any ideas you have in that regard.

Also, can it be from an older movie?

Absolutely. This is encouraged, actually. Definitely don't just think of newer movies. The only film-style customs not eligible for this contest are those specifically mentioned above (recent popular fantasy books-to-movie like Lord of the Rings and Eragon; Star Wars; and comic-movie adaptions).

Just remember to list which movie the character is from in case judges aren't familiar with them and need to look it up.

I take it we aren't allowed to make figs from movies which are coming out then.

Well I don't see why not. But I think it would be easier to make figures from films that have been out for a while no?

Four of MCN's Moderators will be judging. But we'll keep you in suspense about who they are ;)

Was the whole 'ANY movie except those listed' thing difficult to follow?  ;)

Wow. This contest has a lot going for it in my eyes. Just a few questions:
* If the movie was made into a comic, would 'a person' still be able to make the fig from the movie?
* If the movie was made in the 90's, would that be a legible release date?
* Stupid question but, does the color of the lego person (flesh or yellow-some people have grudges!) matter?

People can't read, People can't spell, but people can bicker about what other people can't  do.

Cool, I think I'll enter- but, is someone from an R rated film okay to do, just as long as you don't post links to transcripts or anything? Otherwise, I won't bother... I'm just using this as a handy excuse to do (highlight) sorry, you can't know! Hahaha!

1. Yes, as long as it is clearly supposed to represent the movie version.
2. Sure is. We are really trying to avoid a flood of relatively commonly reproduced custom figs. Star Wars characters are a perfect example and is why it is mentioned in the rules.
3. No. We won't let bias affect the judging. This is about creativity but also effort, if you feel flesh is presents a more accurate custom then by all means.

Yes any movie character is okay. Just be careful what you post. The rules strictly prohibit scenes of violence/gore or the act thereof.

Right, thanks. It's just R because of swearing.

:EDIT:
Can we only post the finished fig, or may we post the decals first and take constructive criticism?

As aforementioned, characters from upcoming movies are allowed, but are we allowed to make a character from an upcoming comic movie?
