Navy SEAL Sniper

by Damien (Minifig MOC's)

I've been working on some modern-style designs for awhile, but since it's a secondary interest compared to my Castle obsession, and because I've been doing so many other things lately, I haven't had a chance to get them together and finished. But. . . this one's done.

The body -- arms, torso, and legs -- are all decals designed by myself. The headpiece is a regular LEGO pirate headwrap painted to match the figure's fatigues. I chose not to use a camo pattern on it, because it wouldn't have looked all that good, solid tan was a better idea. The figure is wearing one tan glove because I thought it looked good - and it's not something foreign to snipers, who tend to keep their trigger-hand bare. The sniper rifle is, of course, the BrickArms PSG-1 painted with a camo pattern.

And because even a Sniper needs something when the enemy gets close. . .

I love it, especially the pattern on the gun.  The decals are pretty nice to.

Great job Damien! Delta's got a competitor, LOL! (Or would that be colleague?) I like the camo patern you used on the weapons. You did the face decal as well, correct? (a cleft chin- nice touch). As soon as I saw BA's PSG-1 I decided as well that I was going to have to use that weapon as well- it's just one helm of a sniper's gun (but that'll have to be when I get some money :( ).

I know you've researched this more than I have, but concerning the last pic, wouldn't a sniper be carrying a pistol instead of an M4 as a secondary weapon (if for no other reason than weight?) or is this just the weapon his spotter would have, or his alternate weapon?

sniping baby snails is awful, but seals, thats unacceptable, santa will bring no pressies to this guy... oh yeah, and happy winterval. While looking simple, it also looks incredibly detailed, and Effective, it has that aura that makes you fall in love with it, then when your too physically attracted to it and can't get away, it pounces, bam! your as dead as the seals... if you know what i mean... the gun, is as good as it gets by the looks of it, and the hat looks better in tan than green, or blue... or even red. all i could suggest is, please don't make us beg for you to stop... i mean i can't make anything that good, you know. i will sell you my soul in order for you to stop... actually, just take my brothers ;) sacrifices must be made...

It's really good, especially the belt.  Does it have any back decals?

Looking good Damien! I really like that style of camoflauge, it really makes the guns look great.

The decals themselves look great, and the belt actually looks like it could be done with fabric and some bent metal, but enough with my antics.

Great job overall, he looks great.

Beautiful, just beautiful!  The bare hand is a nice touch.

How long did it take you to paint the camo patterns?  Did you use Krylon sprayed into a cupand then brushed on, or is it acrylic from a bottle?

I like how you left strategic spots of gray on the rifle. Pretty clever. As everyone else has said, awesome paint job. Let me gues Citadel paints is it? Perfectly matched as I have come to expect. Man, a Conan and a sniper all in one week. That's a heck of a Lego time macine you got there.

The rifle is beautiful, and the decals are crisp and clean as always.

Thanks for the good words everyone. Much appreciated.

I would say a colleague with a fierce competitive streak. ;)  And nope, didn't do the face. That's an official LEGO design.

how did you put the pattern on the gun?? did you just paint it yourself?

Yes, I painted it on.

i will sell you my soul in order for you to stop... actually, just take my brothers ;) sacrifices must be made...

I only take sacrifices on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I will also take bribes of cigarettes and Balvenie Scotch.

Does it have any back decals?

It doesn't. I've always found back designs to be distinctly unLEGOlike, so I try to avoid them if I can get away with it.

and the belt actually looks like it could be done with fabric and some bent metal, but enough with my antics.

I bet Jeff could do it. He's awesome at that kind of thing. But I'm not so talented in that area, so I'll leave it to him.

How long did it take you to paint the camo patterns?  Did you use Krylon sprayed into a cupand then brushed on, or is it acrylic from a bottle?

Took about 10 minutes for each gun. The paint, as Phar rightly guessed, is Citadel brand. Good stuff -- bonds to plastic or metal like Krylon and Testors do. Sturdy and will hold up to wear. Although I still use a clearcoat sealer for the heck of it.

Man, a Conan and a sniper all in one week. That's a heck of a Lego time macine you got there.

And I'm not done yet!

The sniper is now, unfortunately, dead. Conan killed him and is now running around Hyboria with a sniper rifle and an M4.
