Looks pretty nice. They brought back the classic swords and good ol' triangle shields. Nice looking flail and angry skeleton sword. I like the new little circular shield. The castle is really nice with a great classic feel. I don't like the new skeleton heads, they just don't feel right. The skeletal horses are pretty cool and there seems to be a large amount of soldiers. One thing I definately don't like is the people charging at each other even though there is a huge um... chasm(that a good word for right here?). Unfortunatly I don't see any bows(only crossbows) but I can live without. I also don't like the evil wizard- hes just Ogel with a beard and a hat with a sticker on it. I'm not too sure about that dragon, it has Viking dragon wings but the dragon itself looks Duplo-ish. Also, this may just be me, it looks like the torso designs are stickers instead of printed on. Maybe larger pics would help. Good find Badboy. -Pac

If this is legit, it's awesome news. It would be wonderful to see a return to the older Castle we know and love. I have to admit that I'm a bit weary of this being true, since it's my understanding that the mold for the old LEGO sword was broken, and so we were never supposed to see that sword again. But it looks too good not to be true. Here's hoping.

Nothing new there, though. LEGO has had females wearing skirts for a long time now.

Exciting new development we're having here, indeed. One thing to be weary of is that when the viking concept was initially leaked, there were elements like new beards and axe which we never saw in the final product. So what we are seeing here (assuming the leak is legit) may not be what we will get exactly in 2007. However, I am rather convinced by the look of it though because I remember when pictures of the batman line first came out (or it could be SW or something else, can't remember), Lego used stickers on the torsos as well which led me to assume to be a normal procedure in terms of them designing new minifigs. If the pics were a hoax, done presumably in photoshop, it would've been much easily to present the figs to be in actual printed torsos instead of stickered ones. At least let us all hope so :)

One question, however, is what happened to the good ol'dark gray and light gray helmet? Well, at least we should be thankful that we're not getting those disgusting freckled ones anymore, right? But looking forward to it definitely!

Whoah! Amazing. The only bad points are the new skeltons, the lack of any new faces apart from the ones already being used for aquaraiders, Ogel again and his skeleton-head castle that looks as though he is meant to be Ogel, not a new character. Other than that, I would say much better than the recent Knight's Kindom sets.

I also have a theory about the skeletal horses. My theory is, if TLC are making Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix sets, they will use the horses (with wings) as thestrals. That's why TLC are finally (hopefully) releasing the horses. Just a theory though, but it ties in.

Anyway, I think it's the best looking castle theme out in my short lifetime. And the good castle is whole, not just front and sides, by the look of it!

Well...

Sorry to say it but I'm real sceptical.

It could be true if it is like Mr.Redbean says: that it is a prototype. Because the Ogel head on the evil wizard doesn’t seem right (agree?). It also seem a little bit to "grown up". LEGO has "grown" and released more "mature" sets for some years now, but angry, bloodthirsty skeletons? I just don’t know.

But we can all hope though.

But still I wonder: when will LEGO start making the ultimate knight helmet? The classic, romanticized helmet, the one that appears in most movies, Ivanhoe for an example. I have wished this since I was a little boy and when LEGO finally makes new castle theme they always disappoint me on this. I would have sacrificed all the new visors for the knights in the Knights Kingdom theme, just to get my hands on a helmet like this (yes a know that there is a version of: great helmet that could be bought here on MCN).

But if this picture only represent a prototype, well then there is still some hope ; -)

It's not that hard to believe. Angry-looking skeletons are no more 'grown up' than giant, fire-breathing Dragons trying to eat Vikings. We all watched the original Jason and the Argonauts when we were kids -- that movie had skeletons in it and was far from 'too mature.' It's not like LEGO is trying to tackle the moral ambiguity of cannibalism. They're just making evil bad-guys that the Knights can, as kids like to have their knights do, mercilessly destroy without any moral strain.

I think it's actually a brilliant tactic for a kid's toy. Mom and Dad tend to be iffy about little Johnny having his human knights walk to the neighboring castle and slaughter its also-human population. Mom and Dad, however, will encourage Johnny to send his silver-clad good knights on a quest to rid the world of evil skeletons.

But still I wonder: when will LEGO start making the ultimate knight helmet? The classic, romanticized helmet, the one that appears in most movies, Ivanhoe for an example. Probably never. Little Armory also sells a really amazing one, though. Likely better than anything LEGO would do. So there's no shortage of such helmets out there for the discerning customer. No worries.

Why is lego obsesed with knights?  Why not pirates?

Knights sell better than pirates. They're more iconic, and more children, believe it or not, are familiar with the concept of 'knights' than with 'pirates.'

I'd like to see the Pirate theme come back, as well. But Knights will likely always be LEGO's flagship theme. It always has been, their licenses notwithstanding.

I thought I heard an angelic horn blow, then I found the news on the front page. Haven't been hovering here too much lately but I am getting my bearings back. This news is most welcome. I remember hearing something about Lego trying to really come back strong in the Castle department. This looks to be a good first step. I'll need an army of those skeletal horses, and the new blades look interesting. Is that a double hemishpere helmet one of the characters is wearing?

I seriously hope this is legit news. It will be the biggest thing since the moon landing!

Because Johnny Depp ruined it for all of us guys who have to put up with our lady friends gooig over him in a quasi-fairy dress and eye liner prancing around stupefied mumbling dialogue that only a trained Highway Patrolperson can understand. I rest my case sir.

Well said Pharazon!

This looks great, finally I can get my hands on some good castle bits without having to pay phenonimal amount from Bricklink. The skeletons look great, I'd probably rub and buff the helmets, I'm not too fond of that silvery colour.

Damien, when I purchased the bull knights set a while back, I noticed a difference in the classic sword compared to the newer one, well it was shinier of course, but the centre of the blade (the bit that sticks out) was easier to see and stuck out more. So it's obvious lego made a new mold.

Well, yeah, you got a point there, with knights killing knights vs. knights killing skeletons.  But still there is more brutal with skeletons than dragons, I think. Dragons has always turned up in stories and fairytales with brave knights (and beautiful maids ;-) ) but skeletons has come strong in the last 10-20 years. It’s more of a D&D, warhammer, warcraft, zombies and lich king, kind of thing.

I remembered Jason and the Argonauts. I loved that movie as a kid! Although, if I remembered it correctly, the movie was allowed from 11 or 13 years and up (in my country ).

Well, well. I guess the time when the tournament arenas were the place for our minifig to rumble, has passed.  They have now been replaced with bloody battlefields with dragons, evil wizards, dragons and, hopefully, also cave trolls (keep your fingers crossed).

When you study the evil wizard’s castle you can see that it really look a lot like Ogels earlier forts/bases.  I remember someone mentioned it earlier (?). Let us all hope that it is NOT some version of Ogel that we see here. Imagine if LEGO comes up with the idée that Ogel has built a time machine and travels throughout the history to make troubles wherever he turns up…AAARRRRRGHHHHHHH!  Don’t let it happened, please!

Oh yeah, there’s one more thing. If LEGO attempt to use dragons in the new castle line-up, why not use the model of the Hungarian horntail? I hope, for their sake, that it is because of legal issues (with the movie company). If not, I think they making a big mistake.  The Hungarian horntail looks real cool. I expect two models of it coming with the mail tomorrow (from Bricklink) and I will create an even more brutal version of the horntail then.   When its done I will publish them on my upcoming webpage” Stay tuned!

O.k that was a little bit of topic, sorry…won’t happen again.

The Bull Knights were made years ago - before the mold was said to have been broken. The raised midrib and the dimple in the center of the cross are likely the result of the new kind of plastic that was being used at that time, unless I'm mistaken.

But still there is more brutal with skeletons than dragons, I think.

They are what you make of them. Skeletons are not -intrinsically- more brutal or grotesque than dragons. After all, dragons eat people and breathe fire. And let's not forget that being burned alive is widely considered the absolute worst way to die - and the most painful. Skeletons probably seem more grotesque to you because you are aware of the ways they've been utilized in some forms of fantasy and horror. Most children, on the other hand, are not exposed to that sort of thing (or at least, shouldn't be) and wouldn't make that kind of connection.

but skeletons has come strong in the last 10-20 years. It’s more of a D&D, warhammer, warcraft, zombies and lich king, kind of thing.

I'm not sure about that. Skeletons have been big since before D&D's inception in the '70s. They've always had a place in horror and fantasy - some more violent than others. But even today they're not really the top market villain mook in any setting.

Although, if I remembered it correctly, the movie was allowed from 11 or 13 years and up (in my country ).

Actually, in both the U.S. and Canada the movie is rated G (general audiences): meaning even a 2-year-old should be able to watch it.

Well, well. I guess the time when the tournament arenas were the place for our minifig to rumble, has passed.  They have now been replaced with bloody battlefields with dragons, evil wizards, dragons and, hopefully, also cave trolls (keep your fingers crossed).

Absolutely. The market is evolving. Kids today want monsters and demons more than they want competing feudal states.

Would it matter so much? How many adult LEGO enthusiasts pay any attention to the 'official' storyline of a theme? As long as we don't get skeletons with laser guns or anything like that, I really don't care what LEGO decides for the storyline.

Those helmet on that jousting knight in the picture is so cool; it's from the old knights kindom in the 90's exept it's silver.

I like the idea of dragons with with the castles and knights.  The only problem is that the dragon doesn't look much like Saphira.
