A long overdue custom! Cloud Strife, direct from the lab.

by Deathstickman (Minifig MOC's)
It's been how many months since I last made a custom?
I had brought this in to brickfest to show off, but I never did post it here. Why you may ask? Chronic-procrastination. Pure, home grown laziness.
But no more, I'm turning a new leaf, and beginning with this image right here.

Now, most of you are expecting a lengthy explination of every little detail because you've all been spoiled by UA. Well, from me you get more pictures then words.

Note that the entire backpack is made from cloth. and can hold every sword at the same time. I had trouble finding any good pictures of the holster, that was mostly due to the fact that there aren't any. So I had to make my own. I for one, am satisfied with the result.

Here, you can see the little fold towards the rear shoulder of the sleeve. I Don't have to worry to much about it on this custom since the shoulderpad covers most of it, but again, I'm still working on the design for future customs. The template can be viewed here.

I sharpened each of the First Tsurugi swords for accuracy. Don't come near me on a rainy night.

As you can see, the swords are all to scale with the comepleted buster sword. I did this by making two buster blades and then cutting one down the center and adding fine details. As much as I wish they did, then aren't actually fitting together, but rather taking advantage of clever camera work.

There we have it. The gallery is here for viewing whenever it's cleared.

And by the way, I know someone is going to remind me the 3 images per post rule. Well pbbbtttthhhh! That's been taken care of.

Sticks

That was going to be me, dang it! ;) Though it still says in the rules that only 3 images.

Anyways, the hairpiece is my favorite part, but the paintjob is kind of iffy. It looks sort of brownish. Also, the swords are really good, but some of them aren't too obvious of what they are.

Just one breath... incase that's all that is left...
by Deathstickman on Tue, 10/24/2006 - 18:12
I'm not the best paint mixer. And what do you mean by not to obvious? They're swords, I pity the guy who can't figure that out.

by babyjawa on Tue, 10/24/2006 - 18:14
Yeah, but are they made up? I don't reconize them from the game.

by Deathstickman on Tue, 10/24/2006 - 20:40
The First Tsurugi not from the game, it's from Advent Children. (note the title image) There's a dissection of it here.

by babyjawa on Tue, 10/24/2006 - 20:44
I noticed the title, I just thought... nevermind.

Well, now that I have seen the referance for the swords, I know that they are accurate and definately outstanding.

Great work Sticks!

I was waiting to see this guy. I like the hair, the way you did the spikes is similar to the way I had made them on my Cid hairpiece. (Not yet revealed.) The color to me, looks just fine, just looks like an ordinary blonde hair color, so I see no problems there. Now that holster is definately pure genious, and I am sure it will amaze even Victor! (Looks like lots of hard work!)

I also like all of those swords, havn't seen Advent Children myself, so I don't recognize them, but still very very good.

I hope we will be seeing more of your work soon, it's all good!

Done and done!  But seriously, the fabric is tremendous, and befits the character.  The bare arm is a nice touch.

I'm curious as to why the torso is not printed? Is there a lack of appropriate dark blue torsos, or is it deliberate, allowing the accoutremants to have full focus?

Yeroc: "Spiker-Man" was just a bad pun while he was wearing the first hairpiece. I wasn't to pleased with the choppy results, so I made a new hairpice.

Will: I was actually working on a decal, which I will eventually get printed, but I figured the custom had waited long enough. If I masked it enough, I could probably paint the torso. After all, it's only a zipper, and I could make the strap out of cloth.

Arealight: If I tried sewing something this tiny, I would probably wind up with it attached to my finger. It's all glued together, and the holster is made from 2 brown capes cut into strips. Needless to say, I made about 5 out of paper before trying it on cloth.

Gunnil: I can only imagine the difficulties of working with paper. If you don't have any success, try getting a couple of these for parts.

Wow! That's just great, Sticks! Though the audience is spoiled (bad, bad UA), we simply love the custom! I am truly amazed at the quality of the fabric works - that holster is amazing, as is the sleeve. What did you make the shoulder pad of? Sculpy? Ironic, isn't it, how we mods never find time to submit our own customs while we submit dozens of others' figs... ;) Thought I'd lend a hand:

Hope you like theentry. We're looking forward to seeing more of your creative customizations! Cheers!

*snerf* You love me... Thanks for doing that, I actually hadn't thought of uploading it at all.
I got the shoulder from a scrapped technic ball joint left over from a previous custom.

That is one incredible custom. The cloth pieces are just amazing. Say, did you use sculpey for his hair or something else?

Sticks your fabric skills are getting really good, you're giving Jeff a run for his money.

BBA: I did forget to mention that. Technically, I used Fimo, but I'm pretty sure it all comes from the same factory. ;)

Recluce: I did get a lot of cloth technique from Jeff. I've even made a Little Armory signature fig with his tunic design. (which was a lot easier then I thought it would be)

Yea, I WAS wondering where your Cloud drifted off to. Now we know; you got lazy! ; )

I echo everyone's sentiments here; fantastic job! The fact that you pulled this off without any decals adds to it's uniqueness.

The shoulder fabrics are really good (you're giving UA a run for his money). Along with that wonderfully done headpiece and the exceptional Buster sword (how'd you do that?), wow. What can I say; Fantastic job!

FP: See previous response earlier in the thread.

Nick: I don't know about giving UA a run for his money. He does have a huge headstart on everybody. And I'm trying to develope with my own cloth style. Not as detailed to UA's mini-clothing, but not as extensive as Jeff's glue-on-everything-no-decals approach either.

"but then again Obliviumjr comes to the rescue, and tell you that... i haven't found anything either"
Um, thanks? And I... uh... love you to. *takes five showers* ;)

wow deathstick, this is a great custom, especially because i always wanted to see a huge sword custom. would i be pushing if i would say that we could expect a template for the cloth?

Also, how did you make the sword? scupley?

by Deathstickman on Fri, 11/10/2006 - 09:59
Not at all. But keep in mind, one instance of ebay fraud, and I take it down. ;)

Once again, the blade is made from this piece. If I had styrene, I would've used it. And the handle is made from a 1x2 center stud piece with the sides trimmed, and a brown pole piece.

by MrPaCmAn on Sat, 11/11/2006 - 09:54
Heh could u take more upclose pics of your sword? i'm not exactly getting what you're saying there...
