Castle Factions Reborn!

by Recluce (Minifig MOC's)

I received a request to make a custom Black Falcon using such things as the new MCN barrel helmet.  Last night I set to task and ended up recreating several factions.

Black Falcons

Close-up

The barrel helmet is from MCN, painted black, and has silver rub 'n buff put on the cross nasal and softly brushed over the whole thing to give it a weathered look.  It's a light coat and doesn't show well in the pictures, but better on the close-up.  The pauldrons are also from MCN/Brickforge.

The armsmen are using my favorite torso, spears from MCN, and the speckled viking helms go nicely with the overall look (matches the barrel helmet too!).

Forestmen

Knight front
Knight rear

The knight is wearing a Little Armory barrelhelmet that has been lightly brushed with gold rub 'n buff (also not shown well in the pics).  His cape is a custom print job of the forestman crest.  He is wearing a muscled cuirass reminiscent of the greco-roman style.

The armsmen use another of my favorite torsos, their helmets and falcatas are both from MCN.

Lion Knights

Knight detail

Truth be told, I HATE the crusaders and all of the "Lion" factions out there.  Never liked them.  But the helmet I made for the fleur-de-lis knights and ended up NOT using just called out to be used for the Lions.  The pauldrons are from MCN, and the torso is another favorite.  Don't know where the sword came from, but its not Lego.

The armsmen here I tried to rotate the dominant colors, red blue and gold.  I LOVE the gold viking helms here, they work well with the oblong shields and classic swords.

Ninja

I tried to make these the sneaky assasins they should be.  The torso for the lord is the black, blue, and gold samurai one with the corresponding gold leggings.  I made his naginata from all official pieces, no cutting or glue.

The armsmen use the Bib Fortuna breastplate from the SW line, and are armed with bows.  Take note:  NO CUSTOMIZATION, ALTERING, OR NON-LEGO PIECES USED HERE.

Samurai

The lord of this troop uses an adventurers torso, easy to get.  A samurai helmet with wings and gold horns.  The blade is from MCN, looks like a wicked katana.

The armsmen are simple, the hats are also from the adventurer line, samurai armor, and the grey balaclava head.

So, most of what I did was all official piece customization that any purist can appreciate and even borrow should they wish to spice up their lego world.  I know for sure that I will be using many of these designs as officers and "special" people in my army.

I apologize for the poor picture quality, dunno what was wrong but it didn't feel like cooperating today.

they all look fearsome!!.. I like the ninja faction the most because you can make more faction in that group.  like a fire clan... water clan...land clan....air clan....alchemy clan....snake clan...dragon clan...ice clan..etc etc.

I like all the groups, I notice on all your knights you like to use the barrel helmet, is that because is easy to mold, or you just happen to like that style of  helmet?

Jeez woman, you are making feel lazy lately! These are all fantastic. Nothing too fancy, but nothing dull either. I would say keep it up, but maybe you should take a break.

lego machine, I use the barrel helms because they are cool!  Plus, they are both new Iitems I picked up at Brickfest.

And Pharazon, I am only so productive because I am unemployed, and this keeps the mind occupied.

Great use of the merman torso!

Awww! Recluce is a naughty super mod! ;)

Anyways, the Lion Knights are my favorite of all of them, though the pauldrons look quite odd being gray. I think you should paint those too. The paintjob on the helmet looks great!

Another idea might be to paint part of the Black Falcon knight's silver or blue so it matches the torso.

Thanks,

babyjawa...

Ah, now's there are some great examples of my school of MOCing - mixing and matching of available pieces from the a variety of lines and sellers.  Truly warms the heart of an old LEGO dog to see the Black Falcons and Lion factions back in action.  I partially agree with jawa's critique about the pauldron color - a nice gold/red paint job for the Lion faction would perfectly match the helm, but the "factory" grey look just fine for the Falcons, although a black or silver coating might give the knight an bit of added pinache.

Alas, I know the unemployed customer blues . . so much MOC time, so few paychecks.

Enjoy the time while it lasts!

I hate that rule and I'm changing it.

I just didn't have the time or inclination to do any painting on the pauldrons.  Maube later if I get some black fusion paint.

I hate it too. Though I don't really care if you change it or not. (Many people would appreciate it though.)

Either way, pauldrons painted or not, they all look amazing. You have such a steady hand. (That's hand painting on the helmets right?) It's much better than anything I could do.

Wow, great work on all of these Emily. You say you did them all in the same night?

My favorite is definately the Black Falcons, they look wonderful, now I don't know what I like better- your new versions, or the old classic styles. (Being such a fan of the classics though it might be the older style. ; ) )

Curious now about how you attatched those blue feathers onto the horse helm.

Awesome job on them all, keep it up!

The blue feathers have a clip that holds on to one of the parts of the clip on the horse's mask.

My fav is the Ninja Faction.  Something about the obscured features gives me the heebie jeebies! Great selection of black elements - helmets,  bows, and quivers for the foot soldiers, BTW.

If the "naginata" is the wicked "katana-on-a-pole" thingy, then I'm really digging the naginata.  If it isn't a naginata, then I'm digging the "katana-on-a-pole" thingy.

I wonder if there are any 4-army board games that these factions could substitute pieces for.  My first thought was "Hey, nice beginnings of a Medieval Chess set!", then I realized that the ninjas would clobber everyone.  Game Over.

Emily, I have the black Krylon Fusion Spray Paint. I would be more then happy to paint the pauldrons or whatever other parts you need painted. Just see it as a way to show my appreciation for your great casts.
