Most expensive part sacrificed for a custom.

by NickGreat (WIP, Decal & Customizing Chat)

Just as the title states; what is the most expensive/valuable original Lego part have you had to paint/cut-up/mutilate for you custom Lego minifig?

Mine would be the white plume dragon wings from this .

I cut it up to make RB's Thor's headpiece. It cost me US$10 for a pair of wings at that time. Sniff...

Yup, this cost me a whole Hamilton to replace:

An expensive enough mistake. I didn't know how rare the dark grey visors were till it was too late : (

Maybe one of these days someone will actually make "wing" adornments to go on the side of helmets. Hmmmm.

mine would just be one of those pearl grey mandalorian helmets, but it is still WIP until I can find a good grey paint.
It was only $4.50

an episode 2 clone helmet...i tried to cut of a part from the face and put in a visor but it went utterly wrong and i had to throw the piece away... :( the trooper itself cost me around 12 dollars

But then i think " oh well! its only a clone trooper!" ;D

I would never be so blasphemous as to defile a perfectly good lego part by CHOPPING IT UP LIKE A SAVAGE!!!! ;-)

Ethan, how come your dark gray visor cost you so much? The Bricklink going price seems to be 2-3$

Just cuious ; )

That's bizarre. Oh wait, when I ordered it there were very few US sellers and those that had them had minimum order. Even filling the order to the minimum, it rounded out to about 10 dollars. Basically, I still blame Rec for giving me the idea to remove the holder ; )

i too cut up a jango fett helm thats a 40$ figure...

and i painted the jet pack!! too lol

Not a custom minifig but I painted a three headed dog top head piece white to put onto a dragon body when making a taun-taun. I really regret it now, because I have about five dragons but only one three headed dog.

Mine was when I slashed a ep3 clone helmet to pieces, because my fav head was stuck inside. :'(

Man I hate it when that happens. I ruined one of my favorite modified helms that way. It wasn't the most expensive in terms of money but it was a lot of effort that almost got thrown away. What head was it that was so important?

It was a head with a decal that i had made. It had a comlink and stuff like that. I put it in, and remembered that ep3 clone helms need a black head to represent the visor. and since there was a decal, it was stuck in tight. i Tryed plyers, hot running water, nothing worked. so then i used my pocket knife to cut of the helm, and then saw that the decal was ruined from the water. ;'(

Now, I've been out of the country for a bit, but when I decided to segregate a Mandalorian Helm, Boba Fett packs were still far cheaper and far more prolific than the (then newly released) Jango Fett packs...so I just chopped one of those up and repainted it.  So, you know, $4 or $5 there.

I can't believe you savages cut up a Jango fett piece. He is my favoite character, AND I HAD TO TRADE MY DARTH MAUL FIGURE FOR IT!

I am the chosen one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(but of what?)

An off topic question: The Darth Maul head I have isnt in very good shape, (the red looks pink) does anyone have an idea how to make it like new again? Should I paint on some red over top or some thing? Thanks in advance.

If you traded a Maul for a Jango you got the better deal. Mauls come cheaply on bricklink.

That's good, cause I left out the cape and hood in the deal! But still, I have never ruined a piece for a custom......yet

I'm special!(also, the guy I was trading with knew nothing about lego.)

Actually, now that I think about it I once took apart a yoda head for the ears, but I screwed that up.

ok......WHERE CAN YOU FIND THOSE?? I would give an arm, a leg, and a couple toenails for some of those silver mando helmets.

The illustrious JBF...no comment, pls.
by Muiredach on Sun, 07/15/2007 - 11:21
Yeah.... I had about 8 of those mando silver helms, 1 Jango helm, and 2 Boba helms. I kept the Jango and Boba helms, but I cut up all but two of the silver helms. Four of them that I cut up seem to be usable, and the other few I'll use for "spare parts". I wish I would have kept most of them in one peice....

Where'd you get'em?

I'm going to e-mail the person who I got them from and see if it's ok that I tell everyone. K? BTW, they cost me $0.75 a peice. :)

EDIT: I e-mailed the owner of the store (Amazing Bricks on Bricklink), and she no longer has any more in stock. Darn. Time to break out the silicon mold kit!

Keep Customizing!
