Decaling for Newbies
___________________________________________________________

Hello, I just thought of not too long ago when I was new to Lego customizing and I had LOTS of questions, so I thought of writing this tutorial that tells you how to print out your decals and what to put on them to make them shiny and to make them stick without special paper.

So, you just logged on to MCN the first time and see some great customs and decals that you would really like for your own, so, you resize them and get ready to print them when you ask yourself.. "Well how am i gonna get these darn decals on my figs, and how are they supposed to shine and not look like regular paper? " (or something like that) Well, do i have the guide for you..

>

First you print those bad boys and cut them (but dont cut them individually yet) now for a semi cheap and easy way to make your decals into stickers and shiny is coming up!

Firstly, you need to go down to Target or a crafts store and pick yourself up one of these babies!    *another pic*

>

This is a XYRON create-a-sticker sticker creater, they only cost about 8 bucks and the refils cost about 3 bucks. you just cut the decals on normal printer paper into a strip like this one and slide it into the XYRON X-box, now you pull them out and take the outer layer of plastic stuff. Then, you get some clear packing tape and put on elarge strip over all of your desired decals. then you press down the tape and cut the individual decals out. you then take off the backing of the sticker and -voila- you have yourself a decal you then just stick the decal to your fig and you're done!

If you go to their website (http://xyron.stickermakers.com/) and click on the "Home" button, the last button on the "home" page should be labled "Free Samples and Updates" and should lead you to a page where you can fill out a form where they'll send you, well, samples of what their product allegedly does. If I pass by a Target in my neighborhood later, maybe I'll see if I could find this- I am curious if it works like I'm thinking it does. And, on to check out the samples ordering page...

Um.. I hope I'm not reviving a dead topic here. If it's locked, can it still be a dead topic? I picked one of these up just a yesterday, and it looks like it will work great! Now I just need to find all those awsome decals..... Thanks for the tip!

If it were locked, you wouldn't be able to post in it. I think you meant "if it's STICKIED can it still be a dead topic" -- and the answer is no. You're not reviving a dead topic if the topic is still on the first page of the board.

Good luck with your decals.

Lenny10g, if you take a look at our template central, you can find templates with the proper measurements for various minifig body parts.  Once you have the sizes needed you can import your picture into word and resize it to those dimensions.

Legend of Zelda:  Packaging tape is easily found in any general store, like K-mart, walmart, Target, etc.

Hi,

-I want to print on a transparent sticker paper, but i need white details on it.
Is there any smooth way to make ''professional'' transparent stickers with white sections/details on it?
Or are there any printers that can print white?

Hey there Lorian, There are few printers that can print white, and even fewer people in this hobby who have them. I happen to be one. The main one that people use are the ALPS MD-5000 micro dry printers. Unless you are able to get a hold of one, you will mainly have to use the printing services that are offered. Two of the better ones are listed in our Vendors sub-forum, or I can do it for you as well. Inkjet printers and laser printers both lack the ability to print in white and metallics the way that ALPS printers can. Any other questions you might have, feel free to ask!

That sounds great, i never new that there were printers that could print gold and silver =)
Sorry for the late reply, allot has happened lately..
My decal is not ready yet, i'm working on it in PHOTOSHOP.
How do i mark sections of a picture that i want to be printed in gold/silver??
I'll see if i find a printer i can buy somewhere.
It seems impossible to find  ALPS printers here in sweden so i guess i have to order  it online if i just can find a place to order from.
Know any vendor/online store that sells ALPS printers?
If i can't find a printer ill gladly accept help with the decal, If you want to to help me print it.
That would be great, ill pay you of course.

If you are using an ALPS, you set the areas that you want metallic or white to a specific CMYK value. Then before you print, you open up a dialog box and check the options associated with what you're trying to do. ALPS calls it 'Spot Color'.
