Brickshelf -how to-

by Lamanda2 (Publishing)

Seeing as we get alot of repeated Brickshelf questions here I thought this would be a good idea.

Uploading your pictures to Brickshelf-

First,it is recommended that you shrink and crop the image before uploading, nobody wants to wait 10 minutes for your picture to upload.

Next just click upload, then browse your files until you find the picture you were looking for and click the upload button (at least I think it says upload.) Note that the pictures are listed alphabetically so if you want them in a certain order be sure to name the files properly.

File types-

When saving the pictures be sure to save under the correct file type.

If it is a decal that you made make sure you save it as a PNG,it seems to load quickly and it will not distort the image (do NOT save a decal as a jpeg!)

For any actual pictures saving as a jpeg is the best choice.

Posting Deeplinks-

If you want to send us a link of something you just uploaded to Brickshelf do not send a gallery link, the gallery will not be public until a Brickshelf Moderator checks it over to make sure it does not violate the TOS,this proccess usually takes a couple hours.

So,to post a deeplink, that allows us to see it right away, just click on the image you wish to send us until it shows up all by itself with a white background, next just copy the link or image a post it here.

Well there, glad to get that out of the way,I hope this will cut down on alot of those repeated questions ;-)

Also, any other questions related to this subject may be posted here as well.

Oh,and did I put this in the right forum?

I have a couple of handy tips to add.

1) Don't use bitmaps!  They are take a long time to download and outdated.  You can get just as much picture quality from a png or jpeg.  Use the IrfanView "Save as" feature to save your .bmp as .jpg

2) Easily upload to Brickshelf with zip files.  If you have say 5 or more photos you want in a single folder, use winZip to create a zip file with all of them in it.  Brickshelf will automatically unzip them and put them in the folder.  This makes it so you only need to upload one file instead of many.  Note however, subdirectories will not work!

Can I just say Flickr is also a very good placeto host your finished figs on NOT decals. As there is no Moderating of Pictures, so no need for deeplinks. :)

Yes lamanda you did :)

It's an image hosting website. Kind of like imageshack or flickr, but just for LEGO pictures. They also have a sister website maj.com which is for hosting non-lego pictures.
