"Recent Posts" Where did it go?

by Ramus (Official Announcements)
Just wanted to inform everyone that the sudden disappearance of the "Recent Posts" link (that we all love & rely on) is not a glitch or mistake.  I discovered a problem with the recent posts function that is messing up other parts of the site and disabling this feature is the only fix for now.

So, long story short, this feature will remain disabled until I make the necessary repairs.  Sorry if this has caused any mental breakdowns or unbearable stress to anyone.

We will have it back up and running as soon as I can find a solution.

Thanks,
-- Ramus

Oh Thank God!  I've been a little crazy without it - I felt like I was really out of touch with what has been going on (well, that isn't such a big deviation of how I am normally, but . . . well, enough said ~smile~)

Thanks for noticing and taking care of it. I hope all goes well!   ;)

Am I the only one here enjoying this?

I think it is actually nice without it,that way members are actually going to use the real forums for a change.

Yeah, I like it better without that button too.  I never used it, and it does bring attention only to those most active topics, not the entire forum.  Just ditch that button Ramus, things will be better without it.

No! Please keep the button! Why would you bother looking through every single forum looking for recent posts? Is it not easier to use the 'Recent Posts' button? Answer me that one, eh? Each forum has the threads listed in recentest order anyways, doesn't it? So why would it matter whether we have a button that just shows all the recent posts out of all the forums? I still browse the forums, too, but it just saves time when I have those two minutes to check out what's new at MCN, ya know?

I know you are just trying to make this site better for us Ramus, and many thanks to you for it. No pressure getting the button working again, I'm fine as long as it's temprorary, just please don't scrap it!

P.S. Lamanda, is it just your nature to go against what everyone else says. Well, really, good on ya!

Does this mean the Active Forum Topics button decal will come back too?

Nope, just whatever will make this place better.

Think about it,when that recent post button is there, people only reply to the 10 or so active topics and nothing else, once someone's topic gets bumped off there nobody will hardly ever pays attention to them,as a member of Classic-Castle Shurtugal, you should be liking the change,it would be the way the forums are over there, and let me tell you, those are splendid forums : )

Well, I can't argue with that one. I, for 2 (as in Lamanda and me, and I know there are more people here that frequent CC, too), am very proud of those forums.

I think I'm starting to change my view on this one. CC is fine without any sort of 'recent posts' button, although they are set up differently than CC. since the forums there are hosted by phpbb,  it just seems less plausible to put 'recent posts button on the sight. But that's just me. Ah, heck I guess I'm just fighting change. No 'Recent Posts' button really isn't unreasonable.

I did meant that in a good way. I'm sorry, I think it sounded a little blunt, eh?

I just think it would be a nice change for users to use the 'Community forums' instead of just the recent posts,I think it would also cut down on questions being asked that have come up in the past as well, plus, new members will get alot more out of the site,I think some had never even been to the 'real forums' :-D

Oh,and no need to appologies Shurtugal,I took the comment with a grain of salt ; )

Plus,I like topics like these where people express their opinions(especially when they are written clearly : ) )

Ya now that Lamanda put it that way the recent post button, should go but at least have a section that changes of each day with fourms so there will be a active topic going on but it change like i would say every 1 and a half day's? I think that's a good idea no? because it will go through eeryone's forum's and thell be active to for more responces. But that dosent mean ignore going through the rest of the topics people should visit bolth. I kind like my idea

If people like my idea and it goes into effect somtime. When noobs join there should be a pm sent to them telling them not to vist just the active ones all the time but to go down the list to.

Well that's all i have to say hope you everyone like's my idea.

Null,

There are 'active topics' in the forums, they say beside the topic '1 new' or something of that matter, the only thing that I think needs to be fixed is when you are looking through all of the forums..Custom minifig chat, minifig MOCs,ect.. if they say '1 new' beside them it is really only meaning one new topic,I think it would be much more helpful if was set so it told you how many new posts were in that forum.

We. need. the. recent. posts. button. Losing it is like losing a limb! Having an open wound! I know none really cares about my opinion, since only a few people come to my topics, but that was helpful! I find the whole "Community Forums" thing impossibly confusing!
I feel like leaving! But then again, does anyone care?

No need to shout about it and put in it BIG red text is there? And whats with the sob story about no-one coming to your topics? plenty of members do. You leave because we are missing a little link? I say be-gone if you are that quick to "hang up your account".

On another note, I do appreciate the recent posts buttton, But we can live without it.

Shadow Viking we do care about your opinion.  Really, we do.  However, we discovered that there was a bug with that function and it screwed up other things.  Since turning it off we're better off as a site, especially as it slows the site down every time a user activates that feature.  And we all remember the days of the super slow forums.... it was terrible!

I guess I'm hlaf neutrel in this argument, as I think that only the "announcments" section should be on the reasent box, as it's always nice to know right away who's birthday it is or who the new mods are.
