Raider and the Vermidon - Meaning of 'Vermidon' Revealed - by UA

by Unknown Artist (Minifig MOC's)

My Friends and Fellow MCNers!

Today is a great day, a day for double celebration: thanks to your interest and computer mice, my ‘Minifig Customs’ B-Shelf Gallery got 30.000 hits and moved even furthering the ‘Greatest Hits’ list and, again, thanks to everyone who use their fingers to click the right links, one of my junior galleries, the Minifig Customization ‘WIP’ folder, got 10.000 hits. To celebrate the total of 40.000 hits, I decided not to keep you waiting any further for my newest custom accessory, the KotOR II Vibrosword in three new colors!

I also thought that it would be fun to make a minifig that would combine all of my latest WIP projects, so I proudly present… Sweso von Gemos, the tamer of Vermidons! Yeah, the Vermidon is made from a Dino 2010 set I bought entirely for its dark red pieces. What’s a Vermidon, by the way? I completely made the beast up, but had to find it a suitable name. Something that I use pretty often, sometimes two at a time is called Vermidon. Let’s see if anybody guesses what it is… ;)

You know I can’t resist photoshopping an image! ;)

About Sweso von Gemos: He lived two generations before the Mandalorian invasion, on Onderon and was a member of a noble family. Was exiled from the City of Iziz and became the leader of the beast-riders. Later, he married the Onderonian Queen, uniting the beast riders and the people of Iziz. (It’s just too bad if you haven’t carefully played KotOR II!)

Because the character never actually appeared in the game, I was free to choose his apperiance as I wished. Did someone say that I always made Jedi with one face and hairpiece? Sweso sure isn’t a Jedi and has a custom hairpiece (one of Atton hairpiece prototypes). You might remember the cloak from my recent WIPs, the only difference is that I, inspired by Jeff’s awesome work, decided to try making a fabric belt – in my opinion, the cloak looks better this way. I would also like to thank Jared and Emily (Recluce) for their Mandalorian decals – this classical design suited my fig perfectly.

So, what do you think? As usual, comments, criticism, questions and suggestions are welcomed… ;)

Take care, and listen to ‘One way ticket to the Blue’ by Boney M!

EDIT: Check my last post to learn what a 'Vermidon' really is... ;)

Always a great custom UA,

But I don't like the hair try another colour instead of white makes him look old.

But the belt is cool and the riding the beast pic is awesome!

I am speechless! Good thing I have a keyboard in front of me, I'll have to opine Steven Hawking style.

I don't know DD, I kinda like the white hair, probably got that way from endless Vermidon training. I wish I knew what that beast is. The belt is a nice addiction and it's much easier to see the details in the vibrosword in darker colors. Everything here looks great and congratulations on the number of clicks to your galleries, don't mind telling you I contributed to that ; )

I have to say it, you've earned a P.H.D.!

UA, nice swords! Very well detailed. And the robes really compliment the character.  Also nice photoshop pic definatly sets the mood.

"What’s a Vermidon, by the way? I completely made the beast up, but had to find it a suitable name. Something that I use pretty often, sometimes two at a time is called Vermidon. Let’s see if anybody guesses what it is… ;) "

I tried figuring that out and it sounds famiiar, but so far the sites I'm finding are all in another language (Turkish I think), I'm going to go out on a limb and guess "a mouse"- but I'm still looking into what it is, so I'll be back...

Everyone, thank you for your feedback! I really appreciate your attention! Sorry for not getting back to you sooner!

Crazy Boy: Thanks! The hairpiece was the hardest part because I couldn't get rid of the bubbles in the mold (I had to cast it since the clay prototype was just too fragile). Shhhhhh! Be quiet about the arm decals - I almost convinced everyone that they're right in place there... ;) You see, I just like how they look there, don't you?

Amanda: Oh, yes, you definetely should start molding those great headpieces of yours! I am very happy if my customs inspire such great work! :)

Brick Dude: You see, I wanted to try something different from my classical 'hooded cloak', so I thought that this one looks very decorative, and, more importantly very KotOR-ish. ;) Glad you liked it.

DD: *ducks* I confess: that the hair is white partially because I used white plastic when casting it, and didn't want to paint it afterwards... ;) And the major credit for the belt design goes to Jeff, of course.

Phar: Wow! Unknown Atrist, PHD, MOD of MCN! Man, I'll have to change my signature... ;) I've also casted the sword in black, but haven't yet taken pictures of it. No, please, though I like physics I wouldn't like to have a Stephen hawking in my topics (yes, hawk is the word!). :D

Peter_Nix: I actually was a little reluctant about how the photoshopped picture looked (almost too dark for a light-sided character), so I made a few more, you can check them out HERE and HERE. Oh yes, the google search results are in Turkish, but let me tell you that 'Vermidon' is not a word - it has no real meaning. A little tip: it's best to use Vermidon with a little water. ;)

LF: Thanks! Perhaps it's not my best custom, but I certainly think that it's one of the most customized ones.

Pacman: Well, I really don't know how comfortable the robe would have been in real life, but I wanted to make something that resembles both a Jedi robe and the Onderon Millitary uniform, but would at the same time look original.

Nick: Glad you liked it - the sword you see on the pictures is what I call a 'D-Cast' (9th prototype and the 4th cast) - it took me about 2 months to get it look this way, but it was definetely worth it! Ah, you really need to play KotOR!

Emily: Thanks! Wish I, too, could say that I love 'everything' about it! ;)

Nice PS pics all of them. I admit I wasn't sure what side he was on, but concerning the first pic, how many dramatic moments were spent where a hero battling his enemies fought them while a storm raged on above (yes, I've read too many comics in my life). Pic 2 was probably the one I liked the best (for a pic of a light sider, it's serene and makes him look more like a nomad or something). Pic 3 looks like he's on his way to a picnic- I'm guessing he's a troubled guy, pics toobright and cheery for someone like him (mind you, I've never played the game and know nothing of the characters).

Great job. I need to get some good fabric soon. Just curious, have you ever attempted taking some of your dark jedi robe/ tunics and layered them under one of your cloaks? Would that just be too bulky?

by Jedi General on Sat, 06/03/2006 - 02:24

That totally kicks but! that is like sooooooooooooooooooooooo mint! like the way you've done the cloak.

the sword looks good, the idea for the hairpiece is good, the only minor is that the actual hairpiece looks like  it's made from chewing gum...

OMG! I have been a little busy with the UAS lately, and have forgotten all about this topic! Peter, thanks for reminding me about it! Guys, I am terribly sorry for not replying to your comments, let's see if I can make it up for you...

First of all, I will reveal the meaning of Vermidon - it is the name of... A PAINKILLER, MY HEADACHE MEDICINE! I often use it, sometimes twice a day. It was a hard one to guess - I wonder where you could have heard about it, Peter... Now, to your comments, my friends:

Null: Thanks a bunch, I was just trying to make something new - not as Jedi-ish as usual. Glad you liked it!

ShadowViking: Perfect! Now you can make your very own Vermidon :)

VG: Nope I haven't, but it sounds like a great idea! I'll certainly try it ASAP - I don't think it would look bulky at all - in fact, I think it'll turn out pretty cool! Thanks for the idea, man!

Jedi General: Well, this one has been a WIP of mine for quite some time, so I decided to use it...

Kunaiblade: Thanks for the suggestion, I really appreciate it, however I wanted to see if the headpiece works well with standard TLC faces.

Bad Boy: Chewing gum? YOU SAID CHEWING GUM?! The nerve! I am deeply offended! ;)

lego_sniper: Though lightnings are easily rendered in Photoshop, I preferred using a real photograph of a lightning for this one. All I did was enhance the photo a bit, make it a little darker and a little more contrast and paste in the Vermidon and the Raider - nothing coplex, really.

Kam: I wonder, were you referring to the cloak of the vibroblades, I hope to both! :D

Oblivium: I am very happy you've liked these, I am sure you'll fnd LOTS more of it once the UAS is online. ;) It's just great - I'd certainly love to see your comments in every topic I make... :)

Lord Revan: Thanks! Well, yes, originally it was made of clay, but this is a cast of it, so it's actually plastic.

Everyone, thanks very much for your feedback, I apologise for not getting back to you sooner...
