Fallen Jedi - My Newest Custom

by Unknown Artist (Minifig MOC's)
My Friends & Fellow Customizers!

It has been quite some time since I last started a thread in this section. In fact, a month. Today, I have some good news and some bad news for you. Since I would like to finish my post with the good news, I'll start with the bad. The bad news is that you guys won't be hearing from me for a while - I'm entering a series of exams that will last 3 weeks (starting with Algebra this Friday - Yuck!) and I don't think I'll be able to post as much as I used to during this period. That also means that the release of my site, Unknown Artist's Studio, will have to wait, too. :(

Now, the good news. I have once again started KotOR II (for the 4th time, I guess), and couldn't resist making the Dark Jedi Robe, which is my favourite outfit in the game. And, I just had to try making some 3-sided boots - thanks to Daredevil, who suggested adding them to the design. They were the hardest part of the minifig - still don't look as crisp as I'd like, but I find the overall look satisfactory. ;) I would like to thank LegoFreak for his great work which inspired the color scheme of my torso decal.

My new Sith Lord, Darth Viscus, gets a hooded cloak of the new generation – with improved hood and new sleeves. It will be available for purchase once my site’s fully operational.

Last time, many of you wanted to see some raised-hood pictures of the cloak, so I took some pics of both positions. Let me not keep you waiting any further, here we go! ‘Rise, Lord Viscus! Rise and smell the ashes!’ ;)

I couldn’t resist making a comparison picture between the WIP minifig and the finished one: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Supercat7/Custom-Minifigs/MyCustomMinifigs/000-00-aa-01-cs-darkjedi-07.jpg

So, what do you guys think? Comments, Questions, Suggestions and Criticism are welcomed as always. And, beware the Dark Side… ;)

OOh, very dark looking.... I like those boots.  A nice idea, I'd like to see them used more often.

Looks great!

I just HAVE to ask one thing.... how'd you make that lightsaber? ;)
It looks like the metal that's used to hold the eraser onto the pencil....

I have plenty of common sense....
I just, well, choose to ignore it.

Great, as always!

Good work with the boots, as you may have noticed, I've been trying to get it done through paint, but your's have come out much better! (I'll still work on mine though!)
But, as much as I like the boots, I still think you should use decals! ;)

And on the robes, three questions:
Do you print these off the computer? or is it a stencil?
Is it not possible to keep the hairpiece on while the hood is up?
And how many pieces is the robe made of? I imagine it takes an hour just to put these together! :P

Anyways, great work as always! In the customs you've shown, they always come out so professional looking!

While I'm a big Star Wars fan, I admittedly never was impressed with the sets Lego produced. Your SW customs however always peak my interest, I give this custom not only a raised eyebrow but also a nod of the head. Great job with the functionality of the cloak, and best of luck with your exams, what a terrible word ; )

cool decals, I like the simplicity. is there a template or something for the robes?

stick, you painted those? that is the best paint job I have ever seen in modding!

The silver is a decal, actually.

Thanks very much, everyone! I really appreciate your comments.

DD, Thanks, I will also miss posting here. :(

Recluce: Yeah, I even think the TLC should start placing some boots on the official figs. The Clone Trooper was my first go at the leg decals, but these are much more advanced.

Oblivium? Are you OK? I like your drawings, they are very anime-ish. Who told you that you can't draw?

Luke: Thanks, and your guess is correct, the eraser bracket is what I used to make the lightsaber. I like that it is much closer to the minifig scale than the official ones.

Sticks: Thank you for your comments, actually, that minifig of yours inspired me greatly. I know only of three customizers who added any boots to their minifigs before me: you, uubergeek and Norbert Black.

I printed out the original template from the computer, right. But what do you mean by stencil? ;) It IS possible for some hairpieces (like classic short, HP), however it does not look nice with long hair I used for this one. The robe is made of 3 components - the hooded cloak and the two sleeves. Putting the cloak itself isn't hard, however the sleeves are really difficult to make - takes at least 15 minutes each! :(

Thanks, Phar! I am going to need all the luck I can get in my exams - hope it makes up for the lack of knowledge of those formulas. ;) And as a fellow SW fan, I must say that the worst thing about the sets is their scale. There's no model in minifig scale. NOT ONE!

Thanks, Shurt. You mean a template for the hooded cloak or for the decals?

Awesome!! I love that cloak! My only small quip is this: why do most of your jedi/sith have that same hair and face? Otherwise that is cool! I really like the lightsaber handle.

SV, actually, not most of my Jedi/Sith minifigs, but only 3 of them:

Sith Lord Darth Viscus
Jedi Knight Visco Limos
Fallen Jedi Visco Limos

I use them so often mainly because I like making different variations of my SW Character, Visco Limos and because the combination just happens to be my favourite. I guess I have the small right for such little personal things... ;)

Woah, once's again you've pushed past the boundries of what I thought was possible, it rocks!bIlove the colour combination, and the sleeves rock (again) too.

Great job!

Well I think that pic looks cool, And I remeber particularly liking the one that you made the red decal for.
Have you ever thought that people who say your drawing are lame are just people who can't draw themselves.
Also I'm not sure how the rules go about it, but I think if you tell recluce who was ripping on your drawings, she'll sort them out.
Finally if I could draw half as well as you could I would be happy.

P.S. maybe some people dont like your style?

My friends, please stay on topic, or we'll get this topic locked, nicely and tight. Oblivium, I have said it countless times, and I will say it again. Some people do not understand that 'different' does not mean 'bad'. They do not make our world a better place and you shouldn't be concerend much with what they say.

Let me confess, I don't like anime. In fact, I HATE some recent anime cartoons, comics and artwork. Why? Not because I do not like how the characters look but because I think that most of them completely lack good dialogues, plot and a few other things I expect to see in a comic, cartoon or artwork. However, you will never hear me say that anime is BAD.

Not liking anime has never stopped me from liking Picachu from the Pokemon Series. Go ahead and laugh. ;) And, believe me, it will not stop me from liking your drawings, oblivium. I am very happy that my customization skills have inspired you to make the drawings, and I will proudly display them in the UAS's 'Art' section.

Recluce, Kam, RB and Ramus, I will appreciate if you don't delete our slightly off-topic comments, for I believe there are a few things here that should be read not only by oblivium, but by some other people, too. Thank you.

Thanks, ravlegobuilder! You know, this must be the most asked question of the day... ;) Well, as I said somewhere ^up^there^, it is made out of 3 parts: the cloak and the sleeves. Though most people usually think that the hood itself is the most important part of the design, IMO it is the sleeves that give the cloak that Star Wars-ish look and they're absolutely the hardest part to make. ;)

The rest is a little 'trade secret', I'm afraid. However, if you'd like to get some jedi robes, just pm me and I am sure we'll work something out. Full-scale production will start once the UAS is online, but I can accept small orders now.

As always, excellent work UA.  and I 'd agree about how  the sleeve design is crucial to getting a SW-feel to the cloak.  Personally, I have to say I like this figure the best out of everything you've done thus far, but villain designs are always more interesting than those for protagonists, aren't they?

Actually, I'd like to see just a quick shot of this Darth Viscus (so he flows slowly?) vs your "white" Jedi MOC.  You know, representing duality and all.

Keep up the good work,

badger

I wouldn't think so since UA himself said, "My new Sith Lord, Darth Viscus, gets a hooded cloak of the new generation – with improved hood and new sleeves. It will be available for purchase once my site’s fully operational."

Very nice! The boots are a great addition, but the cloak is definitely my favorite. Hope the exams are going well, and I'm looking forward to the launch of your site!

The way you did the saber is very interesting.AWSOME cloak.lol

by logang1 on Thu, 03/16/2006 - 14:08

The boots are sooooo cool.  Guys, any chance of a wrap-around design that has a single fold to cover the side of the minifig leg as well?

BTW, I just splurged for some of Victor's stuff, and in a word, it is completely "quality".  The packaging and presentation of my order is impeccable.  The robes are simply amazing, I got some decals too, and everything is gorgeous.

Thanks Victor!!!!!!!!
