Episode I Obi-Wan Kenobi – The Celebrational Fig

by Unknown Artist (Minifig MOC's)
My Friends and Fellow Customizers! Thanks to your computer mice and ever-clicking fingers, my ‘Custom Minifigs’ folder on Brickshelf got 20.000 hits and moved to an honorable place in the ‘Greatest Hits’ list. Today is a great day, a day for celebration! I wanted to get something special for you, - even thought of a cake with 20.000 candles - but decided that it would be off-topic, therefore *moderated* by our dear Recluce alone (just kidding) ;), so I decided that some pictures of my new custom would be more appreciated… Without further delay, I present you my new custom minifig, Episode I Obi-Wan Kenobi! The cloak has a brand new sleeve and hood design, hope you like it better than the old one:

You know I cannot resist posting a heavily Photoshopped image…

The whole Gallery, the reason for our gathering: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=138630 And, just before anyone asks about templates, they will be available very soon from my personal website, Unknown Artist’s Studio. Please be patient. ;) Comments, Criticism, Questions and Suggestions are welcomed, as always!

Man, you really have come far! From the simple trenchcoat, to the AWESOME Jedi and Sith robes! I must say you deserve the 'Greatest Hits' award.
Where can I find the template? ; )

I have plenty of common sense....
I just, well, choose to ignore it.
by Missing Brick on Mon, 01/30/2006 - 20:05

Whoa, that is awsome! Very, very cool. Will you be offering the template anytime soon?
Also, can that hood fit on his head?

by clone_trooper156 on Mon, 01/30/2006 - 21:14

Awsoeme! How did you do it and where can I get one?

Happy 20 bajillionith hit or whatever it is! I'd hate to sound like back tracking here since I'm one of those that commented the original sleeved cloak looked a lil bit clumsy. But this one looks much more chic and sensible. And this is fashion advice coming from a guy who needs two closets for all his jackets so I know outerwear : ) Once again you have proved your fabric element skills, good job. That photoshop pic almost gave me a seizure though!

UA hes simply awesome, The new hood and sleeve design rule!, Would have been nice to see a pic with the hood up though  ;)

and also for a finishing touch a nice pair of painted boots on his legs could be in order, no? And I shall finish typing with..........

Sung in the tune of happy birtyhday

"Happy hits-day to you,Happy hits-day to you,

Happy hits-day to unknown artist,

And a new custom tooo!!!!!!!!!"

Everyone, I really appreciate your comments! Thanks for your kind words! You are really the BEST!!!

Thanks, Luke! Your nostalgic reply remided me of my first customs that didn't even have any fabric elements... As a member of the old MCN, I am sure you can remember these... :)

Missing Brick, once I finish working on my website, I'll make my first premiere here, on MCN. To further promote MCN, I shall offer a discount to MCN members on all of the items in my website's 'Shop' section, to atract more and more users to our community.

The Head fits the hood perfectly, the design is intended to be used both ways, but because of the delicate type of fabric that I use, I prefer to make separate cloaks for raised and lowered hoods for best apperiance. Do not worry, once I finish the decals for my KotOR 2 inspired Jedi Robes, you will be able to see some designs with raised hoods.

Thieflord, the torso is from the one of the Jedi Defence sets. And not that it's easy to get ANY Lego set here... :(

CloneTrooper, I am most impressed. Both of your first posts on the MCN are on my topic. ;) Welcome! You can check out my CT decals HERE. You will be able to get them as well as the cloak on my websie, UAS, very soon.

Than-X, Phar for reviewing yet another of my customs. You know, I like your way of spelling the word 'thousand' ;) Are there any Jedi Robes in one of your two closets? ;)

Ah, DD! That's a great 'Happy Hits-Day' song! You turned out to be a great poet! ;) Good idea about the boots, I'll add some to my new KotOR Robes!

These new robes are very, very slick! Do you have any pics of the hood completely over Obi Wan's head? The robes would also make great addition to every Jedi's wardobe :) Can't wait to see your site!

Do I dare post something? Yes!

Amazing! Simply amazing. I don't know how else to put it.

Am I hearing about a website? One to order your stuff? If you are expect an order from me. ;)

This is some seamless work Victor! I hope you will let me plagorize it when they're for sale. ;)

I think you should try a Mace Windu. He always looks strange without robes, and the sleeves would compliment him well.

Oh, and what kind of fabric do you use?

by Devin on Tue, 01/31/2006 - 22:42
Nice looking fig you got there UA i especially love the robe you got. Where did you get it?

by Meebs on Wed, 02/01/2006 - 01:24

Devin aint paying attention. The robe is designed and made by UA himself. I too think it's brilliant.
I think part of it's new-found attraction is you've actually produced a robe that so many fellow customizers were dreaming of doing one day, myself included.
I gotta get one for my 'old' ben kenobi figure. I can almost hear him saying 'hello there'.

Keep this stuff up, it's cool.

UA!  I got busy yesterday and didn't see this amazing creation of yours!  Fantastic looking robe!  I honestly cannot pick on this one.  I love the new sleeve design, and I eagerly await the opening of your store, as I have robeless Jedi!

Wow! Great work! It even looks better in brown! I wonder what other colours it will look good in, you could try some camoflauge colour variations. Also you need to make your own sig fig for showing off all your stuff! Make a nice decal, gibe him a lightsabre and your most awesome robes and voila! How about a name like, "Victor the vicious customizer" or something. ( you may have noticed from this post I'm not very good with words)

My friends, thank you! It is just great to recieve comments like yours. :)

Poohbear14: As I said somewhere up there^, I prefer to use different cloaks for lowered and raised hood. I always use the same tepmlate, but I connect the pieces a little differently so that the robes would look more realistic. Originally, I did not intend to make a robe with raised hood for this one, and I'm afraid now I will not be able to get the unique brown I mixed particularly for this fig. But, do not worry, more Jedi with custom cloaks will leave Unknown Artist's Studio in very short time. You can be sure that I shall make some of them with raised hoods.

Lego Fanatic: Actually the sleeves were the hardest part. It takes from 30-45 minutes to get each to the shape you see on the picture. The template itself needs a lot of work before I can release it to general public, I modify it a little each time I make a new pair of sleeves, and, believe me, I have yet to find the optimal shape...

BJ: Indeed, there will be a site where you can order my stuff, but it is still under construction, so you will have to wait just a little longer. ;)

Sticks: I cannot deny that to you since you've done so many awesome creations with my old template and I am sure that you'll make even more with the new one! :) I like the idea of making a custom Mace Windu, since I do not have or like the official one. What kind of fabric I use... The second most asked question about my figs. (The countless demands of templates have the first place) ;) It's very easy: I use the tinnest cotton fabric I can find (usually printable fabric, but pretty much any fabric can be used) and I treat it with Matt Acrylic Medium to stop it from unravelling.

Meebs: It's great to know that I've made someone's dram come true! ;) I hope to take it a little further by sending you one of these... After my site's online, of course.

Recluce: Now that I've got the approval of both members of the Anti-Sleeve Front, I can rest peacefully again ;) I am working to get the site up and running as fast as I can, and if our sites (your site about the custom molded pieces and the UAS) finish roughly at the same time, we could make a Grand Opening here, on MCN. ;)

adfedamine: At the UAS, you shall be able to get a lot of my templates and instructions, including the ones for the hooded cloak.

VM: I will disagree with you that you are bad with words. The first three sentences of your post prove you're just fine. ;) Camouflaged cloaks? Noce idea, however I was thinking more of making camouflaged trenchcoats. I do not see how a camouflaged hooded cloak can be used... What about my new my new avatar, featuring my SW Sigfig - Visco Limos?

Devin: I would very much like to hear (or, rather read) how exactly you think it is made. You see, it took me quite a lot of time to get the design into the shape you see it in, so I wonder how your genious mind managed to understand how it is done in half an hour... ;)

hey everyone i tried making that robe the UA did but screwed it up i used the robe from the toy of obi wan from AOTC and i used scissers to cut it down to lego size but i messed it up. I thought making robes like that would be easy but i guess i was wrong.

First of all, I would like to apologise for the appearance of my first post on this thread, it seems that 'br' and 'img' tags are malfunctioning and I am unable to edit it for some reason, so me and our Admins are trying to sort these problems out.

rapperkid04, welcome to the MCN! It is really great to see a new member making his first post in my topic. ;)

Thanks, since trading is *slightly* forbidden on MCN, you can pm me about those templates. UAS a new project of mine I am working on.

I rather would not spoil the surprise by giving you the address, as I'm planning to make the Grand Opening here, on MCN. ;) I am still working on 'Minifig Customization', 'Art' and 'Store' sections, so please be patient.

I found it. ;)

It looks pretty nice so far, but I'm still a little sketchy about the background. Also, (i'm not sure if this is just me) but for some reason there's a links bar on each side of the page, I'm assuming it's something wrong with the programming?

And what kind of stuff do you plan to have in your shop? Just cloth stuffs, or do you plan on selling whole minifigs?

by Unknown Artist on Tue, 03/07/2006 - 05:07
OK, Sticks. My mistake. Link from MOCPages removed. ;)

Thanks, and what's wrong with the 'steely' background? Well, the two Navigational bars ARE a coding mistake, the second one is just taking up space. Originally, it was the 'News' toolbar on the homepage, but it spread to the other pages, too. As I said, the site still needs a lot of editing and even may need a re-coding to PHP.

Well, in the shop section I'm planning to sell the three of my most popular trenchcoat designs, the hooded cloak with sleeves, custom templates, some decals and instructions for my most popular MOCs.

dukemandu1, please be patient. Once the UAS is online, there will be enough templates for everyone... (Sounds like an election campaign LOL) ;)

NULL11ARC, thanks! I also want to finsh the UAS ASAP, but I can barely find the time... :(

correlian gunner, thanks. As usual, I used some varnish-coated cotton fabric for it. The Photoshopped image isn't that good now that I think of it - I could certainly add some 'burning' effects on the droids... ;)
