I was wondering how to take apart a minifig with an LED light in its hand. so far i've got the legs off, and the left arm. i have a hunch the little button thing-u-mah-jiggers under the arms have somthing to do with it?

Its a two step process. Step 1. Place figure on table. Step 2. Hit figure with hammer. :) Just kidding. Seriously though, I have heard tell of people using jewellers tools, those little tiny screw drivers, etc, to change the batteries. But otherwise, the lightsaber blade, the arm without the saber, the hair/hood, and the legs are all that come off. The saber arm has a wire running through it, so if you remove it, the saber won't lightup anymore.

I may not do it the easiest way, but I follow these steps: 1. No need for jewellers' tools - just find the thinnest screwdriver you have, take of the hairpiece/mask/hood and gently lift up the top part of the head by inserting the screwdriver between the two pieces. Do be careful not to leave marks on the plastic, it's easy to scratch. After you take out the top piece, you can remove the head - and the fabric cape ;) - completely. Hope this helps. 2. Removing the back plate - Fairly same process, but I'll be back with details (have to try a few tricks myself!).

Your assumption is correct.  The minifig's back piece including those little tabs is actually a cover to hold the 2 batteries inside the torso.  With a little gentle prying with something like a small screwdriver or xacto knife, you can get the back off the minifig.

Be careful if you are trying to remove the right arm and want to retain the light-up feature.  The wires are rather tiny that connect to the inside of the torso.  They will break easily and cannot be replaced.  The wires are actually molded into the arm.

For more information, I have deconstructed a Darth Vader LULS seris and posted some pics on my website:

Hope that helps! :)

Hmmm... I think I'll have a go at deconstructing my light-up-lightsaber Darth Vader later... (insert evil laugh sound effect)
