Some new bits of info about Batman

by Glencaer (Brick Talk)
As some of you know, I was lucky enough to go to Enfield CT back in December to meet with LEGO Execs and give them my impressions on the new Batman, Spongebob, and Avatar lines.

Well, to make a long story short - I am really excited about all three lines, but Batman especially.  Everything looks really nice, from the caped crusader himself to all of the enemies he'll be facing.  Spongebob is a lot of fun, and Avatar (which I've recently started watching on Nick) is just straight up awesome.

But here's the new tidbit that you probably could figure out:  Batman and friends will be flesh toned.  Since their characters in comics and movies are fleshtoned, these characters will be too.

I'll post more when I'm able to.

Lenny;

Thanks for posting this info.  I am very much interested in the Batman line, too, and in what cool types of characters and new accessories we'll get.  Let us know more when you are legally permitted to do so.

i don't mind the pink figs...i'm starting to like them

by MrPaCmAn on Thu, 01/05/2006 - 16:15

Nah, I don't like the pink figs, probably never will. Lego should have stuck with yellow.

But for the batman, they seem really good, can't wait till those come out!

Batman and Avatar look good, anything spongebob must have been spawned by demons. Yellow sharpie,my idea, are good but o complete them, I need someone elses idea for sealant. However, unless the the Avatar is wearing the new yellow -orange as found on the viking wyvern, and I beliieve, on the bionicle Keetongu, Yellow Sharpie will fail miserably, unless you dont mind him lokking naked.

Sounds like someone has a vendetta against Spongebob.  I was impressed by all of the new sets.  Spongebob sets are a lot of fun - tons of little fun details and playability.  If you just don't like Spongebob, thats ok, but if you like it at all, or even if you like well made LEGO sets in fun colors, then Spongebob will be for you.

Avatar - I didn't know anything about the show when I went to Enfield - but have recently watched it a few times on Nick.  I love the cartoon, its a little "Mysterious Cities of Gold" with an eastern bent mixed with "Pirates of Dark Water" - the LEGO sets are faithful to the show, and the fig designs are what really got me.  Everyone looks spot on to how they do in the show, with all of the major characters there.  There's one big set (can't say what tho :() that is really amazing - LEGO didn't cheap out, and the extra step they went really makes it an awesome set.

Batman of course is the star.  It has all the details, all the coolness, but lots of fun stuff too.   Everything works for Batman.  Fig designs are top notch, set designs are amazing, and everything comes together well.  There are new molds (obviously - there has to be), but like usual, I can't give specifics.  But I can say that many of you will be as excited as I am.

And I'll be posting more as soon as I can.  If anyone has specific questions, I can forward them to TLG to try to get permission to confirm or deny.  ;)

BrickSet.com has released the Batman setnames - one of them is Batman vs. Catwoman, but most of the sets feature men.

Many excellent set/minifig pictures are up on the Eurobricks site.  My personal favorite can be found right here

Definitely going to have to pick up Mr. Freeze, Joker, and Two-Face.  As for Bats himself, I prefer the "black" version to the "grey" but then if you want to get nuts . . . come on! Let's get nuts!

Have a look at what I found, guys: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1574052 Don't know if it's real or not... I simply adore the new weapons, but I think that tommy gun could have been a little larger. I like the idea of having a catwoman in my collection, however in my opinion her mask in the lego version is way oversized. I never was a big fan of comic books or Batman, but I guess I'll get these sets just for minifigs and spare parts... ;)

oh why has lego forsaken us with flesh toned minifigs that look like scary albino people next to our clasic lego why, some flesh toned people are ok but still why, keep lego yellow the way god created it.

I'm sure you don't really care - but LEGO opted to use flesh tones to depict any character that is originally shown in flesh tones.  The reason is that they don't want 'yellow' to be associated with 'white/caucasian' - rather, yellow is supposed to be no-race, no-nationality.

There was controversy over the Lando fig - back in '03 it was the only character from SW to not be depicted in LEGO.  If they made him yellow it wouldn't look right, but if they made him brown, then it would be admitting that yellow=white.  The decided to make Lando brown, but the other figs in the same set were yellow because TLG hadn't come up with a complete policy governing the racial characteristics of minifigs.  When they did, from then on, whether character or real person (like NBA figs), would be depicted in the true skin tone, whereas figs from generic LEGO themes (City, Town, Castle, Exoforce, etc) would remain yellow.

You may not like it, but that's their logic.  I personally think it makes a lot of sense.

As much as I dislike the flesh tones.. I tend to agree that it makes a lot of sense. I think a lot of youngsters don't really appreciate the sensitivity of the 'race issue.' It's a big deal to a lot of people and I'm glad LEGO is choosing to be sensitive to that so that they can keep making great building toys rather than settling class-action lawsuits for being racist.

Lucky you Krakie! Thanks for the updates. Batman is the best character ever to come from pulp fiction, this should be cool. I'm looking forward to some kewl new figs and accessories.

Everyone who is anxious about seeing the characters might take a look here. The minifigs still look like CG-characters but the resemblance to the ones from the scanned catalogue is impressive.
On batbrick.com some new sets are mapped.

i really love the sets, i don't mind the pink figs, i like them. but i'm getting kinda scared that the white eyes of batman and catwoman are not part of theïr mask but they are printed on their head...is this true?

by bricknick on Thu, 01/26/2006 - 13:27
I heard somewhere the helmets are two-part. Stay tuned for further notice.

edited: this is what I found:

Quote:
I went to Enfield and saw the final version of the figs. Batman's head actually isn't two-sided - when you look at the head by itself, it appears that Bruce Wayne is wearing a bandana or head scarf - there is a white band accross the top of his head with eyes directly below it.

Catwoman's head is double sided - silver sunglasses on one side, and a female face on the other.

No two-paired helmets

Will they do that rubber hair thing on the new sets? I may buy that one with pagwin.

Most of the hair/hats are typical ABS.  The only hair that would be rubber is Two-Face's.
