Sci Figs

by samri8524163 (WIP, Decal & Customizing Chat)

Why haven't the LEGO company made any collection of minifigs of great science fiction movies like Alien vs. Predator or Robocop?  Is it because they're afraid of losing too much money or are they concerned that kids don't want to play with great sci-fi characters in lego form?  They made those dumb basketball fig collections (and trust me, those made the LEGO company lose A LOT of  money), why not make something a little more interesting?  Tell me what you guys think.

A main reason is that lego cannot make sets that have too much violence in them for example they cannot make army sets james bond sets,

As they have way too much violence for 8 yr olds.Hope this answers your question.

I don't think that's what he meant.  I think that they should have like a special section for more mature consumers, like spybotics or mindstorm.

I mean it doesn't have to be all those mature movies, they could be classics like E.T. or Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide.  Does anybody else have any suggestions of who (as a memorable sci fi character) to put into LEGO format?

James bond wouldn't be too violent for 8-year olds because the parents see what they by,or they should ant way.I mean my brother was 3 and watching Bond and anyway how can LEGO make it violent anyway?

James Bond would be an excellent suggestion.  I mean, LEGO  company  could make all those classic villains like Jaws or Scaramunga.

I think king kong would make an awesome series, it would be a big success.  just think, a five or six piece figure for kong itself and sets like the wall + sacrificing bridge, the boat, the theater, and the t-rex fight.

Wow, that's a very interesting suggestion.  I can really imagine all those sets coming out on the market.  I hope someone like a LEGO board member is queing in on this so they can make King Kong sets before Mega Blocks does.

Hey Commander Custom, you're not really supposed to triple post, actually.
As for why Lego doesn't make so many sets based on movies is because they need the licenses, and that costs a lot of money.

Yes Aragorn, you may call me CC, but just out of curiosity (and I'm not trying to be a smart@$$) but why can't I triple quote.  Sorry for the foul language, its the only word I could think of.

CC, all is forgiven for using semi-foul language.  Darn those Mega Blokians for taking Kong, it's just not fair!!!!!  It never had a chance, they just swooped down and took him like an eagle!!!!  AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Ok, I'm over my outbreak. :))

Double, triple, etc. postings are not permitted.  It's in the terms and conditions of use that you agreed to by becoming a member here.  You can read all of them by clicking on the button reading "Rules & Regulations" on the left side navigation bar.  It is poor forum etiquette,  and adds to the size of a topic while not adding to its content.  If you have something else to say and no one else has posted after you, simply hit the edit button and add to your previous comment.  It greatly enhances the flow and cohesion of a thread.

Oh, and about making Sci-Fi figs... TLC tries to make non-violent themes not just to protect kids, but because themes with guns simply don't sell well in europe.  They do sell well in the USA.  Why do you think there were two versions of the Dino attack theme produced?  The US version had guns and blasters, and the european version had cages and nets.  The US Sci-Fi we are all familiar with tend toward the extreme violence of blood, guts and guns.  And James Bond is NOT an appropriate theme for kids.  Aside from the guns and violence, there's usually a bit of a sexual overtone to the movies.... they'd have to do a front and back print of the female figs and add in the zipper down the woman's back so he can use his magnetic watch to undress her.

It doesn't have to include sexual themes in it but still, wouldn't it be cool if they made E.T. and Marvin and stuff?

I guess they would make it the same way they made the Sebulba figure, but with more detail.

AS for TLC coming out with sets for every movie that hits the screen, I'm glad they don't because that would cut into the great custom mini-figs that you guys come up with.

Yeah, LEGO company make cheap figures.  Take Grievous for instance, his head was a disaster!

I do'nt think kids would be to familiar with E.T. stuff. Hitch Hikers Guide stuff might be alright though.

by badboytje88 on Wed, 12/28/2005 - 04:36
i think lego should mae the adamsfamily sets. not that lego will but it would be great. like mrpacman sead it's just to expensive for lego to buy the rights.

Ha Ha, James Bond being appropiate for kids. Imagine that.

Yeah, the U.S. tends to have more guns/violence/blood than it needs in a movie, but that's what the current majority wants, especially the teenagers, no offense. But it would be nice if they did make Hitchhikers, or something besides Star Wars, lego could come up with some intresting pieces.

by Viking Maniac on Wed, 12/28/2005 - 10:29

U.S got guns and blaster in dino attack !?!? That's so not fair! I never cut up my rifles 'caus I've only got the ones from the cowboy sets from when I was small!

Back on topic I totally agree with Recluce about the James Bond films. And even if Lego did make sets for more mature people what would stop the smaller kids from buying it? Plus where would they sell it if it was for people over 15 or something? Because they can't sell it in  toyshop because kids would see it and then scream at their parents for it.(well not all kids)

Well, it still wouldn't be really appropiate selling legos, which are meant for children by the way, that have adult themes. It doesn't seem right.

Hey, what if LEGO company invested in Star Trek?  Or Lord of the Rings?  Star Trek sounds like a good idea to me because there could be all those different species and borgs and enterprise crew and stuff.

by Commander Custom on Wed, 12/28/2005 - 15:54

I think Star Trek is an excellent suggestion because they is no gore and unsuitable themes for kids but the only problem is that not many kids get into Star Trek.

HOO RAH!!!
by badboytje88 on Thu, 12/29/2005 - 01:54
another problem is that star trek is out of date. when lego buys a licens of a film ore serie it's got to be a film which has been in publicity for quite some time.

by samri8524163 on Thu, 12/29/2005 - 13:13
Yeah, I guess you're right bodboy, but they are still making Stargate shows, that could be an interesting series.
