Jedi Knight in White Robes (with custom cloak, decals and lightsaber)

by Unknown Artist (Minifig MOC's)
Hello, my fellow MCNers! Today is a great day! My final exam is over, and I can once again be a full-time customizer! Even during the dark times of extremely hectic 5 weeks and getting ready for more than twenty exams, I have managed to do some customizing. I experimented a lot, and finally worked out at least 3 new designs: the lightsaber, the cloak and the decals for my latest custom. Because few liked the old sleeves I made for my robes and cloaks (those who haven't seen them can check out THIS picture), I modified the design to make them more practical, realistic-looking and easy to make. I hope you like them (Recluce and Phaz, I would especially like your to know the opinion of your anti-sleeve front) ;) During my holiday, I'm planning to print out the torso design on decal paper, but till then all my Jedi get is sticker paper. :) FULL CREDIT TO MY FRIEND, DAREDEVIL, FOR THE AWESOME BELT DESIGN I USED IN THIS CUSTOM! Let me not keep you waiting you any furter, here's the link to my B-Shelf: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1534510 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1534514 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1534521 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1534522 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1534523 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1534524 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1534525 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1534526 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=138630 - Folder Link Please tell me waht you think, as usual, comments, suggestions and critisizm are welcomed...

Wow, that is awesome, Victor!

And Daredevil has gotten so much better at decals since he first got here. (they grow up so fast)

And come to think of it, I get this question a lot, and now I'm asking it.
What parts did you use for the lightsaber?

by Faramir on Fri, 12/23/2005 - 17:52

that............................is................................amazing....................wwwwwwwoooooowwwwww

what did you make the lightsaber hilt ? and also i REALY need that decal and template NOW

Thats great I like the new arms much better than the others. and is the lightsaber made from the piece of a pencil that holds the rubber on?

Dude that's awesome! Man that's the coolest lego thing I've ever seen! Even cooler than fat starships made out of lego! He's just awesome, and he's in white! Man I agree with everyone else when I say you seriouslt NEED to make a template for all of our sanity's sake! 10/10.

Whoa!! Love the cloak!! I'm stunned!

by Unknown Artist on Sun, 12/25/2005 - 10:09
Sticks, as Crazy Boy said, it IS the thin metal piece that holds the rubber on those classic pencils. ;) Those decals (except the belt, of course) were my first attempt at using Illustrator. I began only with THIS concept of mine, and soon figured out it was hard to do anyhing like that on photoshop. So, I installed Illustator and started experimenting. Well, you see the result. Unfortunately, I haven't got the templates rendered yet, but when I finish, you guys will be first to know. Everyone, thanks very much for your kind comments!

Do you have the template for the cloak UA?

-Jeremy

by Unknown Artist on Tue, 12/27/2005 - 07:44
Nope, but I know how it should look :) That's why all of my cloaks are a little different. I'll try to render the optimal template ASAP, hopefully I'll finish it (and some other templates) till the end of this holiday.

Very nice work there Victor!  Nice clean decals (and application), and a super snazzy looking lightsaber hilt.  Good thinking on using the metal bracket from a pencil.  The robe looks ghood, although I think the sleeves may be a bit too long.

The part I like most about your custom robe is the hood. It's very nicely designed. Looks professional (My mom majored in clothing and textile and my, my, does it look like the real thing).

Jaw-dropping job.

by Commander Custom on Tue, 12/27/2005 - 14:52
I really like the lightsaber hilt.  By the way, nice job, I like it a lot!  Commander Custom salutes you!

HOO RAH!!!
by Unknown Artist on Wed, 12/28/2005 - 14:07
Wow! What is thy bidding, my Recluce? Shorten the sleeves? It shall be done! ;) When it comes to the lightsaber hilt, I thought of using the eraser bracket while I was drawing some concepts for my customs. I understood that the bracket was exactly the material I was looking for! Nacho, the hood is the easiest part of all the cloak, believe it or not! Making those sleeves look realistic is much harder! :) Thanks for your feedback, guys and girls! I really appreciate it!

Actually i think the sleeves look quite cool i mean in all the movies the sleeves are rather 'long'. Also Victor Do you think i could have that template i really like it and i tell you i'm quite hard to please, except on a sunny day, which it isn't ... but anyway cool decal/template/whatever else it is!

Yeah I too think that the sleeves are fine, because as oblivian sead they are always long in the films and hand down a bit, but just to please all of us you could do two versions.

I know that in the movies they are long, and that works fine for humans, but in terms of lego.... we're restricted by the limited articulation of the minifig hand.  So, a very slightly shorter sleeve (say, one thread's worth) would probably be better in terms of allowing him to easily hold things.  Know what I mean?

Yeah, i know what you mean if a minifig can't hold his or her no wait... do minifigs have genders? never mind, But if 'IT' can't hold 'i'ts' weapon then 'it's' doomed in battle you know... anyway UA can i have a template for your cloak 'it's' well cool, And i think it'll look good on my current Decal (which is a working progress) unless someone could give me a template for some jedi robes!

obliviumjr, do you mean THIS one? That's a pretty old design, however, a lot of people use it (as I still haven't rendered the one I used in this custom) . As I think I've mentioned somewhere ^^^ up there ^^^ I'll try to render some new templates in Illustrator till the end of my holidays. ;) Recluce, I am sure that the long sleeves prevent your minifigs from defending themselves from your cats, however, I designed these purely for display ;) Maybe I'l try to shorten them a little. Only a LITTLE...

Wow!  Your custom looks great!  Ever think about making a General Grievous custom, I would be a fun project because of the different kinds of lightsaber hilts and his long silky cloak and maybe make him a little articulated.

Thanks for your kind words, everyone! We've gotten this topic to 30 comments! :) Well, anyway, let me answer your questions:

ThiefLord, it is a very simple procedure. Take any old pencil you have , something like this, and an exacto knife. Make a vertical cut brom the lead of the pencil to the eraser. Then, take out the eraser and straighten the metal band. cut it into approx. 1 cm (I do not remember exactly) pieces and bend them in a cilindrical shape. You should get a 3 mm wide and approx 1.5 cm tall cilinder. If you'd like to see some pics, I can put together a short article about it. Just pm me if you have any questions.

TK-421: Wow! A whole family of customizers! ;) When it comes to the sleeves, they are the hardest part of all the project and I still haven't got an optimal template for them. I just know how they must look, that's all. It can be said that I design each pair individually... You can check out the latest version of my hooded cloak here:
