Making Faces

by Blonde Guy (Tips, Techniques & Questions)
Hey, I'm just wondering how you make a picture of a real life person into a 'legoized' version using a photoediting program. The idea of just leaving the face as it is would be odd, I can't imagine such a detailed face on a minifig. So if anyone has any experience in this process, I would be more than happy to hear your reply. Thanks.

I actually thought about doing that of people who wanted me to, then selling it to them. So I'm also looking for what BG's looking for.

I havnt done it before, but I would just make it look cartoonish, you know? not so much detail, just the basic charecteristics of the face, just try not to use thin lines for details because lego tends to make them bolder(all to add to the cartoon-like image)

hope this helps.

BlondeGuy, checkout the MicBean character. Part of the prize was poor old RedBean had to turn my mug into a legoized face. It might help give you ideas.

Take a picture of their face, and put it on a light box. tracing paper on top, and trace over the most significant features of their face. Keep it simple. Trace the eyes (pay attention to their shape), eyebrows, nose, mouth, chin, and possibly even cheecks if they have prominent cheek bones. Maybe they even have a dimple. Once finished, all you have to do is shrink that down and put it on a minifig head. That's the best way I know to legoize someone.

What if you buy some transfer paper and just delete the skin color of the guy and change the size of the face pic. Then print cut and stick it on

Man, thanks a lot, everyone! Especially to Blonde Guy for posting, because I've been trying to do this for a while, but I recently forgot about it, and you reminded me! Awesome! I've tried, and a lot of my subjects don't have many prominent features, but I think Recluce's idea would work for me! Awesome! Yessss!

Two other ideas playing on Recluce's suggestion about using a light box for the tracing. One alternate to the light box idea would be using a program that uses layers (I've recently started using Adobe Photoshop 5 and have been using layers for tracing)- it's not easy or perfect, but it works (somewhat- real world pen and paper is alot easier and probably more accurate until you get the hang of the program/layers). Just a thought.
